TEACHER EDUCATION IN BRAZIL
BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE, CHALLENGES AND PUBLIC POLICIES
Keywords:
Teacher education, Public policies, Theory and practiceAbstract
This article discusses teacher education in Brazil, addressing its historical foundations, legal frameworks, public policies, and the challenges faced in linking theory and pedagogical practice. The analysis spans from the 19th-century Normal Schools to programs such as the Institutional Teaching Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBID) and the Pedagogical Residency Program, highlighting the advances and setbacks in the professional appreciation of teachers. The text highlights the gap between teacher training curricula and the real demands of school practice, in addition to the limitations of continuing education and the precarization of teaching work. It criticizes the influence of international organizations on Brazilian educational policy, which is often driven by economic and managerial interests. Finally, it advocates for a critical teacher education, attuned to local realities, that fosters pedagogical autonomy and human emancipation through transformative public policies.
