Abstract

The short story “I Saw Dom Casmurro in the Family Group”, by Everton Viesba, revisits characters and tensions from Dom Casmurro in a contemporary context shaped by social media and WhatsApp. With humor and irony, the narrative explores jealousy, suspicion, and resentment within family relationships, expressed through likes, emojis, messages, and silences. By bringing classical literature into dialogue with everyday digital life, the text creates a satire of contemporary family dynamics, revealing how small virtual gestures can acquire different meanings and fuel conflicts, suspicions, and disputes over recognition and belonging.
