EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
FOUNDATIONS FOR PEDAGOGICAL PRAXIS

Derived from the umbrella research project Right to Quality Education: Foundations, Educational Public Policies, and Implementation Modes in Basic Education, this study presents foundations for pedagogical praxis concerning Education for Sustainable Development. The 1988 Brazilian Constitution enshrines the right to an ecologically balanced environment among the fundamental rights essential to human dignity. National and international frameworks, particularly those promoted by the UN and UNESCO, emphasize the urgent need for sustainable lifestyles to preserve natural resources for present and future generations. The analyzed documents consistently underscore education's vital role in raising awareness and shaping individuals committed to sustainability. Furthermore, they emphasize the direct link between the right to education and the realization of all human rights.
