Abstract

This article reflects on the erasure of women in the sciences, adopting the externalist perspective proposed by Thomas Kuhn in "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions." Kuhn's work introduces the concept of paradigms, which are dominant thought models in specific scientific periods. The methodology employed in the article involved mapping Kuhn's central theses, guided by Sacrini's theory in "Reading and Writing Argumentative Texts." By utilizing Japiassu's book, the article provides a historical understanding of how sexism became entrenched in science since its inception, influenced by beliefs and social factors. The analysis concludes that externalism highlights how sexism, as a tool for erasing women in science, can restrict scientific perspectives by relying solely on male viewpoints. Additionally, sexism can influence scientific practices by disregarding gender differences in research, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive and equitable approach in scientific investigations.
